Best viewpoints & panoramas in Tokyo

Tokyo is a city best seen from above, and several of its high vantage points are open to the public. The entries below range from observation decks inside tall buildings to a view of Mount Fuji and a former railway footbridge in Setagaya, so there is a mix of indoor viewing platforms and more open outlooks.

The sections follow in the order listed. Opening hours and wheelchair access are given where they have been confirmed, and where a detail is not listed it is left out.

東京シティビュー

Tokyo City View is an observation deck in Roppongi, open every day from 10:00 to 22:00. The site has step-free access and a dedicated website at tcv.roppongihills.com.

Shibuya Sky

Shibuya Sky is an open-air observation deck, open from 10:00 to 20:00, with step-free access. Details are on the Shibuya Scramble Square website at shibuya-scramble-square.com/sky.

東京都庁展望室 南

The south observation deck of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building is open every day from 09:30 to 22:00. Information in English is published on the metropolitan government's tenbou page at yokoso.metro.tokyo.lg.jp.

六本木ヒルズイルクリスマスミネーション

A Christmas illumination along the Keyaki-zaka street in Roppongi Hills, with step-free access. It is a seasonal display rather than a fixed viewpoint, so check dates before planning around it.

富士山の見える場所

A place in Tokyo from which Mount Fuji can be seen, and it is step-free. No further address or hours have been confirmed for this spot.

Watch Shibuya Crossing

A place to watch the scramble crossing at Shibuya, with step-free access. It is a street-level view rather than an elevated one.

東京都庁展望室 北

The north observation deck of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, in the same building as the south deck.

小田急線世田谷代田駅旧跨線橋

The former overbridge at Setagaya-Daita Station on the Odakyu Line, a former railway footbridge in Setagaya.

Practical notes

Several of these spots are indoors and in the same buildings, so one visit can cover more than one deck. Check the websites for the Tokyo City View, Shibuya Sky and Tokyo Metropolitan Government pages before going, as hours are listed for those sites only. Shibuya Sky is listed as open until 20:00, so it closes earlier than the Roppongi and Shinjuku decks.
