Things to see in Tokyo: museums worth a visit

Tokyo has a strong run of specialist museums, and the eight places below show how far that range goes. Some are large contemporary art venues, others are small collections built around a single craft or subject: printing, stamps, Japanese swords, sheet music and recorded music, fire fighting, and the work of one painter's circle.

The entries are listed in the order they appear in this guide. Opening hours vary a good deal from place to place, and several close on Mondays, so check before you set out. Where a museum's wheelchair access is recorded, it is noted under its entry.
